How to Fertilize

Crop productivity in oil palm is largely influenced by effective fertilization, and fertilization is the most important component to oil palm plantation upkeep.

The 4T concept represents the key principles of effective and efficient fertilisation: the right type, the right dose, the right place, and the right way. When selecting a fertiliser, a number of factors must be taken into account, including the age of the plant, the presence of nutrient deficiencies, the condition of the soil, and the price of fertilisers.

Fertilization of oil palm plants must be done in the right type, dose, place, and method. The fertilizer used must be in accordance with the type of oil palm plant, such as borate, tsp/sp/rp, urea/za, dolomite/kieserite, and mop/kcl. The dose given must also be adjusted to the needs and age of the plant. The best place for fertilizing is a disc and a gutter that has been cleaned of dirt and harmful weeds. The application of fertilizer must be carried out in accordance with the proper procedures and methods.

In addition, fertilization must also be adjusted to the climate, including rainfall which is an important factor in determining the timing of fertilization application. By applying the right fertilizer, it is hoped that oil palm plants can grow well and produce optimal yields.
